Inchanga

Ideally situated halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, Inchanga with its old Victorian hotel has been a stopover for refreshments for more than 100 years. Standing proud amidst the glorious solitude of the famous 1000 hills and lush KwaZulu Natal countryside, the hotel at Inchanga has borne witness to the history of KwaZulu Natal. Close to the hotel is the railway station, which opened in 1892, and in those days the hotel offered the traveller the ONLY hotel on the SAR line hot running water and electricity.

Trains run from Kloof Station to and from Inchanga Station, on the last Sunday of each month along the edge of the picturesque Valley of a 1000 Hills. Inchanga is a colonial station (built in 1895) and is 45 minutes ride away along the old main line. The line was built in the late 1800`s and is one of the oldest active railway lines in South Africa today. At Inchanga Station one will find the popular Inchanga Station Craft Market where many handcrafted items can be found. Numerous food outlets help to satisfy the weary traveller, including braai facilities for the 12:30 train.
