Kaapsche Hoop
It was the discovery of gold in the streams around what is known today as Kaapsche Hoop that led to the establishment of the town in 1882. The gold, and its prosperity, have long left the area, but the town remains. Now the economy is based on the commercial forests around the town. This is an area of scenic beauty that harbours wild horses and the endangered Blue Swallow. This popular tourist village is a haven of beauty, peace and tranquility. With its misty Mountains and high rainfall, Kaapsche Hoop has a cozy ambience and is the Nature lover's dream destination. Kaapsche Hoop is rich in History and local art, and offers various leisure activities, such as Horse Riding, Hiking trails, etc. With the local restaurants, quaint shops and loads of accommodation, it makes for the perfect holiday! Kaapsche Hoop is 290km from Johannesburg, and only 28km from Nelspruit. Originally called Duiwel's Kantoor (Devil's office) it was renamed Kaapsche Hoop in the 1880's because the unusual rock formations and swirling mists brought Table Mountain to mind.
