Where To Holiday

Katberg

The Katberg region of Amatola/Stormberg is reached by a gravel-surfaced road (R351) which branches off the R67 between Fort Beaufort and Queenstown. The Katberg Pass gives a wonderful panoramic view of the region. There are some unusually exotic trees to be seen among the pine plantations in the area, relics of 19th century forestry experiments. These include the North American Redwood and the Himalayan Cedar. There are several hiking trails in the vicinity of the forestry station and the Katberg Hotel, the 2-day Katberg Loop trail and 3-day Katberg Hiking trail.

Apart from hiking, there are several ways to pass away the hours in the Katberg region. You can spend your time in the saddle on either an invigorating gallop across the plains or take a gentle stroll through the forest. Or you can join a sundowner game drive from the hotel. Go fly-fishing at the Thrift Dam (bring your own gear) or relax with a round of golf at the 9-hole golf course.
