Where To Holiday

Qolora Mouth, Wild Coast

Just a little further up the Wild Coast from the Kei River Mouth is the Qolora River Mouth - a serenely beautiful part of the country. Here the Qolora River winds its way to the Indian Ocean through picturesque green hills dotted with mud huts before rushing through a deep gorge into a pretty lagoon at Qolora Mouth.

Qolora Mouth offers excellent swimming, although the estuary is often closed to the sea, making it great for the more relaxing water sports like canoeing.

There are some wonderful beach walks on the wide stretches of sand on either side of the Qolora Mouth. You can stroll to Khobonqaba Point, a popular fishing spot. Or view the Jacaranda, a wrecked coaster, firmly lodged between the rocks since 1971.

A 4 km walk inland from Qolora Mouth takes you to the historical pool where Nongqawuse, a young medium, was believed to have communicated with ancestral spirits in the 1850s.
