The fairly newly established Mpumalanga town of Secunda came into being in the early 1980's, after a merger of Sasol Two and Three who produce synthetic fuel and diesel. The entire town was built to house the local labour force, and is home to an estimated population of about forty thousand people, with an additional two hundred and forty five thousand people living in the nearby Embhalenhle community.

The town falls under the jurisdiction of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, and serves as an ideal location for a relaxing vacation away from the fast pace of urban living. Adding to the charm of the highveld town, Secunda is situated in Mpumalanga's Cosmos Country which explodes in a blanket of vibrant colour when beautiful pink and white cosmos flowers bloom in late summer.

One of the main attractions in Secunda is the Graceland casino, the perfect destination for gambling enthusiasts, with its own challenging links golf course. The surrounding areas allow for excellent gameviewing at a number of parks and nature reserves. Secunda also boasts a beautiful waterfront called Lake Umuzi, which houses numerous enticing restaurants, tenpin bowling, the popular Aquazone waterpark,and the Basement Theatre which hosts various cultural events and shows.
