The Bell @ Fernwood

Self Catering House, Cottage, Chalet Accommodation in Champagne Valley

The Bell @ Fernwood is situated on Fernwood, at the foothills of the majestic Cathkin Peak. Surrounded by the little berg, free roaming game and privacy of the Champagne Valley. We can proudly announce that it has a 4 star rating from the SA Tourism Grading Association. We strongly believe that the unique and beautiful location are the best assets.

The Bell is a fully equipped three bedroom, six sleeper chalet with two bathrooms and a reading room. The spacious open plan area leads onto a cosy veranda with amazing views giving you an instant connection to the berg.

The kitchen is well equipped and daily cleaning services will ease you into a relaxing mode in no time.

The Bell is privately situated and no other units are visible from the house. For cold winter nights, The Bell is equipped with a fireplace, under floor heating in the main bedroom and bathroom and electric heaters in the other bedrooms. Wild antelope and birds feed on the lawn while you relax on the veranda.

Fernwood Share Block consists of 230ha or pristine mountain property adjacent to the Okhahlamba World Heritage Park. The Bell is the only commercially rentable chalet in this private share block development. The Bell is the best in the berg.

The facilities on the property are:-

  • Tennis court
  • Games room with two pool tables and table tennis and darts
  • Horse rides
  • Plenty of walks

Guest Reviews:

We have just had a wonderful few days at the Bell. The unit was exceptionally well maintained, beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. Beautiful accommodation in a stunning setting to which we will return with joy!

Fantastic facilities. Beautifully decorated to suit every need. Our second visit and won't be the last. The only complaint is that the walking trails are not clearly marked and in-house facilities like the library and tuck shop and games room were unknown pleasures we could have enjoyed had we known about them.

My husband and I just spent the past weekend at The Bell and I must say that this is totally the place to come to to rest, relax and enjoy the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains at their best. The weather played along and it was mid twenties for the entire time we were there. Warm beautiful weather, just chilly when the sun set but there was plenty of wood provided for the inside fireplace, which was very welcome. The Chalet itself was very modern, being newly built and had all the modcons one could wish for. We especially liked the underfloor heating, very welcome on those chilly nights. A special thanks to Shirley who made us feel welcome and took the time to give us directions and phoned us en-route to make sure we were on the right track. It was very special as well to view the roaming game up close, especially the zebra who were browsing on our back lawn for most of the time we were there. It was especially enjoyable to wake up every morning and to see the sunshine reflecting off the mountains. All in all an extremely satisfying and enjoyable holiday, pity it couldn't have been longer but I will definitely go back whenever possible.

The Bell is exquisite, what you see on the pictures is what you get. From the drive up to the house, to the actual house and the view from the house. We arrived around 19h00 and the offices were closed, however one of the ladies came to check on us the following morning to see if we arrived safely and if there was anything we needed. You don't normally get cleaning services in self-catering accommodation, so this was definitely an up for us. This was by far the best holiday and rest assured we will be going back again.

Was so impressed. From the moment we got there, we experienced great service. Communication was excellent from the moment of making the booking to when we arrived and then the next day, someone came to ask if all was,ok in the chalet. The price is so reasonable. We will definitely go back!

This past weekend my wife and I celebrated our 1st Anniversary, I could not think of a better place to switch off from the busy life of Gauteng, to reconnect and rekindle our love. Fernwood Lodge really made this occassion a special one, this is the ideal place to switch off. The Bell is excellently positioned for breathless views. I immediately booked the next holiday on Bells on my return and would go there again and again. I recommend this place to everyone...!

Thank you for a great weekend at The Bell. I have wonderful memories of Fernwood Lodge and this weekend was no different. Our friends commented on the cleanliness of the house and Lucy (our helper) was friendly and efficient. The house was also so nice and warm. The big lawn in front of the house is also great for kids, as our daughter had the best time playing, looking at the berg and wild animals grazing. We have decided to make this an annual holiday and is looking forward to our next visit.

This wonderful place exceeded our expectations. Beautiful surroundings with zebras grazing on your lawn - the view is much better than on the pictures! Accommodation is spacious and luxurious. Should perhaps tone down the review to ensure we get a booking again!

We simply loved our stay at the Bell. It was clean, presentable, practical, and most of all relaxing. The heaters and underfloor heating were well used whilst we enjoyed some proper winter weather. The new TV interfaced with our computer and we were able to watch our holiday pics on the big flat screen. The best was the morning view when lying in bed and watching the sun rise over the Drakensberg mountains - simply awesome! We will stay there again and recommend it to anyone who needs a relaxing holiday.

Thank you so much for the wonderful experience at The Bell. It was truly one of our best holidays. We went for various hikes in the Berg, did horseback riding and was constantly treated to the most magnificent views of the mountains. We will most definitely be back for more. The place is so well equipped with all that you need for a truly comfortable stay. Everything was clean and in excellent condition. Thanks again for everything.

A big thank you to the Bell, we had a fantastic stay! The accommodation was very comfortable and the views majestic. Everything was clean, the place is obviously well looked after. We enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace and the girls were pleasantly surprised when the maid came in every morning to clean up, giving us more time to really enjoy the place. We had a nice break and definitely look forward to visiting again. Donny Naicker - Johannesburg
