Excursions to the Eastern shores of iSimangaliso Wetland Park is highly recommended as it is South Africa's first Natural World Heritage Site, iSimangaliso or in English - "Place of wonder and miracles" is an exceptional place that is extremely rich in Fauna & Flora, Second World War history, Zulu Culture and is a prime example of conservation and preservation. iSimangaliso is reclaimed from human interference as decades old Pine and Eucalyptus forests were removed to allow natural forests and grass lands to once again flourish, bringing back the prolific wildlife from yesteryears.
With the entrance gate a mere 2km away from St Lucia Town, iSimangaliso is accessible to all types of vehicles as the 35 km road to the Cape Vidal beach is tarred all the way. Along the route to the beach there are numerous link and scenic roads that could be taken, these roads are all hard surface gravel roads and once again all vehicle friendly with the exception of tour coaches. General game viewing is superb with three of the BIG 5 present (leopard, white rhino and buffalo) and with a wealth of birdlife present across the 5 eco-systems. Guests are assured to enjoy the outstanding natural values that include exceptional biodiversity, ecological processes and superlative beauty. Fact is, there are very few places left in the world where guest can enjoy game viewing and a swim in the Indian ocean ........ all within 3 hours!!!

iSimangaliso is truly a unique place and stand true to the wise words of Madiba, South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela. Madiba said - "The Wetland Park must be the only place on the globe where the world's oldest land mammal (the rhinoceros) and the world's biggest terrestrial mammal (the Elephant) share and ecosystem with the world's oldest fish (the Coelacanth) and the world's biggest marine mammal (the Whale)

Guests can also enjoy a day on the unspoilt beaches, swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean or just simply stroll through town exploring all the interesting shops, restaurants arts and crafts on offer.
