Rhino Walking Safaris

Game Reserve And Bush Lodge Accommodation in Sabi Sands

Rhino Walking Safaris lets you discover nature's hidden wonders in specially tailored walking trails through a 12,000 ha private wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. The concession shares a 15km unfenced boundary with the famous Mala Mala and Sabi Sand reserve with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the two reserves. The concession is noted as an excellent game viewing area and good sightings can be expected.

Highly qualified guides share their wealth of bush knowledge with you - from the identification of animals, trees, grasses, insects and birds to the medicinal uses of plants, folklore and basic tracking and survival skills.

Any combination of multi-day walks, game drives (see Rhino Post Safari Lodge) or primitive sleep-outs on raised wooden platforms can be arranged. The concession is a stone's throw from Skukuza, the heart of the Kruger Park, and is easily accessible by road or air.

Plains Camp offers 4 comfortably furnished African explorer style tents, en suite with hot running water and all the comforts of home with the African Wilderness on your doorstep. Built in authentic pioneer tradition, it has the serenity of a 19th century naturalists rest, nestled in an Acacia Knobthorn thicket. A generator and a back-up battery system power overhead fans and 24 hour lighting. The generator system can be used to re-charge camera batteries at specific times. There is a communal Lounge & Dining Area with outside fireplace. Overhead fans are in all tents. Only 8 guests per walking trail escorted by 2 armed rangers per walking trail, ensures safety and exclusivity.

From Plains Camp, guests can walk to our Sleepouts where they spend the night in tents on elevated wooden platforms. This is the only place in the Kruger National Park offering this unusual accommodation. Guests will enjoy sounds and senses heightened as they share the wilderness at night, while being safely guarded by our observant guides. The rumble of the elephant passing by or the roar of the lion at the nearby waterhole, are the only noises that might disturb guests in this peaceful wilderness. Guests will arrive on foot at the platforms in the early evening carrying a lightweight rucksack containing a change of clothes and refreshments. After hanging up mosquito net tents, sundowners can be enjoyed on the platforms overlooking a waterhole. There are 2 bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets. 8 guests per Sleep Out and 2 armed guards.

We regret that it is not possible for us to accommodate children under the age of 12 years old at Plains camp, Sleep Outs or on walking safaris as the Kruger Park regulations does not allow children under 12 on trail. Children under 6 cannot go on game drives unless there is a spare vehicle available or a private vehicle booked by prior arrangement.
